The entrance to the valley begins at hand-crafted wooden gates near the hotel. You can have a nice walk in the beautiful surroundings of the wild forest along a small river until you arrive to an eight meter high waterfall, the highest in Hungary. (5 km can be taken by car.)

In the period of communism there was a forced labour camp in the stone mine of Recsk, where a number of people died from the inhuman treatment and heavy conditions. The memorial park induces shocking impression due to realistic representation of the former brutality.

The name of Cifra (Flashy) Stable – a former estate barn – refers to the ornate red-marble, red-brick, wood-beamed exterior of the building, that was built in 1880 according to the plans of Miklós Ybl. Currently there is a carriage museum in the building with old aristocratic carriages and fancy accessories.

At the south-eastern end of Parádóhuta, along the Yellow Trail tourist sign, the Clarissa spring derives at the edge of the forest. With its carbon-dioxide content, it increases the body's temperature, accelerates blood circulation; and because of its iron content it is important in hematopoiesis. Also used as drinking cure. It can be used in an iron deficiency anemia, anxiety, fatigue. Everyone can drink this water; it is particularly refreshing.

The castle was built before 1320 at a height of 296 m above the village. There is a passage carved into the rocks, leading to the upper castle. Important programs of the settlement: the castle days of Sirok (the third weekend in June), crafts camp of fine arts (the first two weeks in July), international motorcyclists meeting (the last week in July) and the national meeting of folk choirs (20th August).

It is the highest point not only in the Mátra, but also in the country (1014 metres). Kékes is accessable by car along the highway, or by the tourist road across the woods. A big symbol stone painted in the national flag colours attracts a lot of visitors and in the look-out tower café you can visit an exhibition of mini bottles. In wintertime you can enjoy skiing on the nearby slopes.

The highest lake of Hungary is situated near Mátrafüred. It is a nice starting point for pleasurable strolls and walking tours and provides beautiful panorama of the vicinity. The lake found its new shape in 1960 and today it is a very popular axcursion place. You can go fishing and boating there. Near the lake there is an old lookout tower from where you can have a nice view of the Matra mountains.

The Kompolty family members were the owners of Kisnána for a long time. The castle was built around 1445 by János Kompolty, who was one of the country's barons and a member of the Order of the Dragon. This is an attractive historic monument of the region at the foot of the Mátra mountain under the walls of which spectacular tournaments are organized to evoke the glorious past.

The Piszkéstető Astronomical Observatory is located in the Mátra near Galyatető, Matraszentlászló, Matraalmás and Matraszentimre. This is a station of Konkoly Observatory, first built in 1958. There are six objects in the area, the Observatory's residential building, three domes, one roof-top building with binoculars and a rock-bottomed building with earthquake detection devices.
